The sense of taste occurs through taste buds all over your tongue.  It's not true that different areas of your tongue taste different flavors.  There are sections on your tongue that contain one of the three types of your taste buds.  When you eat something, your taste buds are activated, and they send a message to the brain which tells you what you are tasting.  Your nose is also a big part of what allows you to taste.  Some people are better at tasting than others.  These people are referred to as tasters.

Steps for “Can You Taste The Rainbow?”

1.  First, we will blindfold you and you will be asked to hold your nose.  Then you will put a Skittle in your mouth and try to name the flavor.

2.  Next, please rinse your mouth by taking a drink of H2O (water).

3.  A taste strip will now be placed on your tongue.

4.  Some people will be able to taste the taste strip while other people will not be able to taste this.

5.  If you taste the taste strip, then you will be given water to help re-cleanse your tongue.
